Big Blue 5k Race FAQs

General Questions:

What time should I arrive on race day?

We encourage all participants and spectators to arrive with enough time to ensure parking availability and allow for adequate time to drop off bags, warm up, and get in the start corrals.

What are the event start dates and times?

Where can we park for the races?

We encourage you to arrive early! It is highly recommended that participants park at the Chartway Arena (Formally Ted Constant Center) in Parking Garage 43 & 45 (the streets that they are located on).

What will the weather be like in Norfolk during August?

The average high is 87 degrees and the average low is 77 degrees during August.

Race Information:

Are hydration packs allowed on the course?

Yes. We allow hydration packs on our race course.

Are there porta-potties on the course?

Porta-potties are located near the start line, at every water stop on the course, and at our post-race party.

Will spectators be allowed to view the finish?

Yes, there will be plenty of space to view your runner finish. We also invite you to stay and take part in the post-race party.

Where will my results be posted? Do you have runner tracking?

Results can be found HERE after the race.

We will provide live Athlete Updates for the 5K. You can sign up via your participant guide one week prior to the race.

On race day we provide the following updates:

Will there be hydration and energy gels on the course?

No, there will not be a sports drink or energy gels on the course. There will be water stops for the 5K.

Are baby joggers, strollers, or pets allowed on the course?

Baby Joggers/Strollers
Yes, baby joggers and strollers are allowed. You must include your child’s information during your registration (there is no additional charge). If you did not include your child during registration, please visit the Help Desk at Packet Pick Up to add your child.

Baby joggers and strollers are not allowed in corrals 1-2, so you must be in corral 3 or higher and seed yourself at the back of your assigned corral. It is your responsibility to make sure your baby jogger/stroller does not impede other runners, and you must take extra precaution to ensure your safety, your child’s safety, and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any participant from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.

Pets
Pets are not permitted in any of the J&A Racing events.

Do I need my ID for the post-race tailgate party?

You will need a wrist bracelet in order to drink beer at the post-race tailgate party. You can get this bracelet by showing us your ID at the Friday packet pick-up (at the special ID Check booth) or at the tailgate party.

What are the age limits for the races?

The 1K is for children ages 12 and under. Parents who wish to run with their children in the 1K must sign up for a free guardian bib during registration or packet pick-up.

Will there be an awards ceremony? What are the award categories?

All awards will be mailed once results are verifies. You can find information about awards categories HERE.

Are headphones allowed during the race?

Headphones are allowed; however, we strongly encourage participants to abstain from using headphones during this race.

Packet Pick-Up:

Can I have my race packet mailed?

No. We do not offer packet mailing for Big Blue 5K.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

Yes. If you are unable to pick up your own race packet, you may authorize another person to pick up your packet/bib number. The authorized individual MUST have their own photo ID, a signed and printed authorization form, and a copy of the participant’s photo ID.  The signed authorization form MUST be printed, we will NOT accept any authorization via phone, text message, or any other electronic device.  The copy of the photo ID may be via text, email, or photo copy. NO EXCEPTIONS!  If the authorized individual is missing any of these items, we will not release the packet/bib number.
